| Sounds of English Guide | ||

|
The purpose of this website is to allow students to explore the various sounds in the English language. You will need quicktime player and java to make this website work. This website has all of the sounds of English recorded for students to listen to. At the bottom of the page there is a recorder which allows students who have a microphone to record the sounds themselves. This can be used for listen and repeating the sounds and then comparing a student's recording to the recorded sound. The recorder also allows students to save the sound files they create to their own computer, which can then be sent to the instructor for further guidance. Beyond the main page of the website, there are two pages which focus on the vowels and consonants in more detail. Each of these pages presents the various sounds in the English language in minimal pair sets so that students can hear the sounds in various contexts as well as in comparison to other similar sounding words. Here to there are recorders available to students for listening and recording the sample words. The above is just one way in which this website can be used. I encourage you to use this website however it best fits you as a learner or instructor. Stephanie Buechele |
